Carpenter Ant

Large (1/4 to 1/2" long), black ants with large mandibles on workers. Commonly found nesting outside in moist, dead wood and inside where they hollow out nests inside walls, sills, door frames, subfloors and other wooden areas. Like termites, Carpenter ants can cause severe structural damage and should be treated promptly.
